An internship can be a great opportunity for a high school or college student looking for work experience before graduation. Are you interested in nonprofits or the mental health field? Mental Health America of Northeast Indiana (MHANI) is willing to offer to this experience to eligible students. Interns at MHANI experience a wide variety of tasks involved in working at a nonprofit organization, such as consumer support services, residential support, guardianship, marketing and communication, and administration.

We accept interns from many local high schools, colleges, and universities.

Internship Application

Internships for school credit should be approved by the academic department and Mental Health America. Interns are responsible for reporting all hours worked. Staff will help provide supervision and monitor work performance based upon the academic requirements. Interns will work closely with staff to ensure all academic records are completed properly and timely.

Accepted interns may participate in:

  • A variety of program-related activities of a nonprofit organization
  • Consumer advocacy (telephonic support for consumers and family members)
  • Consumer-driven support groups and mentoring program
  • Marketing activities related to social media, newsletters, and special events
  • Research and advocacy projects
  • Cedar’s Hope (a long-term supported living program)

Interns are expected to be engaged, dependable, and able to work independently. The ideal applicant will have:

  • Excellent communications skills
  • Professionalism
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills
  • And possess an interest in mental health advocacy
